Celebrating 50+ Years of Bullion

After 50 years of only making gold bullion coins, the South African Mint added silver coins to the Krugerrand series in 2017. The Krugerrand was the first bullion coin in existence and is still as popular today as it was upon release. Enhance your collection with a 1 oz Krugerrand Silver Coin.

About the Silver Krugerrand

The Krugerrand originates in South Africa and is produced by the South African Mint and the Rand Refinery, owned by the South African Reserve Bank.

The original design (in gold) is the oldest gold bullion coin manufactured specifically for investing and collecting purposes anywhere in the world. 1967 was the first year when solely gold coins were included in the series, encouraging more people to purchase South African gold. It wasn’t until 2017 that the first silver coin in the series was released as part of the 50th anniversary series.

The 50th anniversary of the Gold Krugerrand was celebrated with a 1 million-coin “Premium Uncirculated Silver Krugerrand” and a 1 oz “Proof Silver Krugerrand.” The same year, the mint also made a Krugerrand out of platinum. The release of silver coins proved so popular that the mint made the Silver Krugerrand an annual release.

Silver investors like to buy Krugerrands because of their value and small size, which makes them easy to store. Krugerrands are popular with both professional and private investors who want to buy bullion directly, protect their portfolios against the U.S. dollar, or add to their portfolio’s diversity.

Features of the 1 oz Krugerrand Silver Coin

All 1 oz Silver Krugerrand Coins have a picture of Paul Kruger on the front. Kruger was the first person to be elected President of the South African Republic, and from 1883 to 1900, he was the leader of the South African Republic. Durban Deep opened in 1896, when Paul Kruger was president. It was one of the most profitable mines in the world. And during his time as president, South Africa’s largest city, Johannesburg, was founded. Today, through a well-run secondary market, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) trades in Krugerrands.

This side of the coin includes the words “South Africa” in both Afrikaans and English.

On the reverse face is the image of a Springbok antelope, the national animal of South Africa. This is the only type of antelope in its genus, and it lives mostly in southern and southwestern Africa. This South African coin design was first used in the 1930s and shows a Springbok running across the plains. This side of the coin also features the year it was made, its face value, and its weight in Silver.

The design of the silver Krugerrand is the same as that of the gold one.

This 1 oz Krugerrand Silver Coin is distributed in uncirculated condition. It is available as a single purchase in flips, tubes of 25 coins made of plastic, or mint-sealed boxes of 500 coins. Buy your coin in our shop today or contact our team if you have any questions or concerns.
